This bead was made with a vintage black core and solid
raku rod encasement. Every color you see came from the
raku- there is no black at the surface of this bead. Vetrofond clear dots were added for

This bead was made as a test of no tools raku work. It
is simply a disk bead with
raku rod dots melted in on
vintage black and rounded out. I did blow on it to
cool. There is no clear used on this bead. |

Working Tips
-
To bring out the color heat raku until
white hot, then cool it quickly using brass, blowing
or even a can of compressed air
-
Brass seems to be the best to cool
raku quickly- try touching it to different parts of
the bead for interesting variations in color
-
Encasing raku brings out the color
-
Keeping your brass in ice water will
chill the bead faster and keep the brass from absorbing
too much heat to be helpful
