Introducing: The Artist of the Month in the "Little Gallery"

by The Staff on Feb 11th, 2019

New to Phoenix Art Supplies & Framing is the "Artist of the Month" program. Starting in March 2019, the space to the side of the main part of our store, which we have dubbed "The Little Gallery", will feature a new local artist each month. In the gallery, a chosen artist will hang up to 20 pieces and have a flip-through portfolio of up to another 20 pieces for the entirety of the month. All artwork will be available for purchase.

To celebrate the artist and their work, each Artist of the Month will have a reception on a Friday night early in the month of their exhibit. The reception will include a meet-and-greet with the artist, good conversation with other art appreciators, and light refreshments.

At Phoenix Art Supplies & Framing, our management and staff have gotten to know so many wonderfully talented artists over the years. We are excited to be regularly exhibiting and sharing the artwork of these artists, who more than customers, are our friends. Stay tuned for a new artist every month. And if you'd like to submit your artwork for consideration, please visit: phoenixartsupplies.com/artist-of-the-month

March 2019 Artist of the Month

Our Artist of the Month debut artist is Smita Rao. A Bucks County landscape artist trained in traditional fine art, Rao's careful compositions balance a minimalistic approach to the ephemeral qualities of turning seasons, with focused meditation on nature's power to shape our daily experiences. In addition to more than fifteen years exhibiting her work in galleries in the Greater Philadelphia region, Rao's work is represented in private collections and public venues.

Recently, Rao has returned to review and curate the body of work she has developed over twenty-five years of inspiration from the natural beauty of Bucks County. The works to be exhibited at Phoenix Art Supplies & Framing during the month of March 2019 represent a body of work that was created up to and including 2013. The exhibit will include works created with a wide range of media, including traditional pastel on paper, oil pastel on board, water-based inks, and prints. Rao's prints include woodcuts, etchings, monotypes, collographs, and linoleum cuts. Much of this work has not been previously exhibited in galleries and represents a comprehensive review of her artistic achievements.

Reception with Meet and Greet: Friday, March 8, 5:00 – 7:00 pm. (Light refreshments served.)
